Ep 133: Trusting the Signs & Just Doing One Thing
Trusting the signs & just doing one thing.
After a summer away, I’m back on the podcast.
Last week, we said goodbye to Daphne, our dog of 16 years. And while I’m still very much in the sadness and grief of losing her, I’ve also found myself thinking about everything she taught me while she was here.
About being excited about the little things. About slowing down. About simply being there for someone when they’re sad. About co-regulation. And about letting grief, gratitude, love, and even moments of happiness exist together without needing to make any of them wrong.
I also started asking Daphne for signs.
A squirrel. A feather. A butterfly.
And whether you believe those things were actually signs from Daphne or simply beautiful coincidences, there’s something powerful about being willing to ask, slow down, notice, and let something mean something to you.
Because sometimes trusting yourself means getting quiet enough to notice what’s already there.
And maybe that’s also what I needed as I came back to this podcast: I don’t have to know what the next 100 episodes look like. I don’t even have to know what next week looks like.
I can just do one thing.
One episode. One day. One step. One thing that feels good to do next.
In this episode, we’re talking about:
- The unexpected grief of losing a dog who was part of 16 years of our lives
- Letting sadness, gratitude, love, and joy exist at the same time
- What Daphne taught me about slowing down and enjoying the little things
- The power of simply being with someone when they’re having a hard time
- Co-regulation and what I’m carrying with me as my kids get older
- Asking for signs and being willing to notice them
- The squirrel, feather, and monarch butterfly stories
- Why you don’t necessarily need proof for something to feel meaningful
- And giving yourself permission to just do one thing at a time
Maybe there’s something you’ve been overthinking, avoiding, or feeling like you have to figure all the way out.
What if you didn’t?
What if you just trusted the next thing?
And then did that.
