Ep 135: Words I Never thought I'd Say
In this episode, I’m sharing how we got to the decision to let our daughter step away from club soccer, what it taught me about commitments, identity, self-trust, joy, and why sometimes changing your mind doesn’t mean you made the wrong decision in the first place.
We talk about:
- What happens when you finally get something you thought you wanted and realize you’re still not happy
- The sunk cost of time, money, energy, and identity, and why none of it is wasted
- Why our identity is about so much more than what we’re doing at any one point in time
- The importance of loving the process, not just being naturally talented at something
- The difference between honoring a commitment and honoring yourself
- How to recognize when something genuinely isn’t a fit versus simply wanting to quit when something gets hard
- The stories we create in our heads about what other people will think, say, or feel and how to insted trust the kindness and empathy of other people while releasing the need to control how a decision is received
- And the reminder that if there’s an area or piece of your life that isn’t feeling so good, it’s okay to shift, choose again, and keep discovering what truly lights you up
Sometimes you don’t know what you really want until you’re actually in it.
And sometimes the thing that isn’t working out is exactly what gives you the contrast to recognize what you do want.
You can choose again.
