Episode #99: Safety First: The Real Secret Behind Confidence and Consistency
The Real Secret Behind Confidence and Consistency... Safety
If you’ve ever wondered why it’s so hard to stay consistent, especially when life gets busy, you’re not alone.
The truth is, you can’t build consistency or confidence on top of chaos.
You have to feel safe first.
Because your nervous system won’t let you expand when it doesn’t feel anchored in the present. It’s like trying to grow flowers in soil that hasn’t been watered.
Safety is the soil. Everything else, confidence, trust, momentum, grows from there.
False Safety vs. Real Safety
False safety looks like control.
It’s the checking, fixing, doing, and striving that keeps us from feeling what’s underneath.
It can look productive, but it’s really our body’s way of saying, “I don’t feel safe slowing down.”
Real safety is felt not achieved.
It’s the moment you exhale and think, I can just be here.
It’s presence, not perfection.
How Gratitude Brings the Body Into Safety
Gratitude isn’t just a mindset. It’s a physiological state that tells your nervous system, We’re okay.
When you drop into true appreciation, even for small things, your body shifts:
Your breath slows.
Your heart softens.
The vagus nerve activates, flooding your body with oxytocin and calm.
Gratitude moves you out of survival and into connection.
It reminds you that safety isn’t something you have to earn it’s something you can feel right now.
Somatic Anchors for Safety
You don’t have to wait for life to calm down to feel calm inside. Try these simple, embodied practices anytime:
-
🌬️ Breathwork: Inhale slowly through your nose, hold, exhale longer through your mouth. Each breath tells your body: I’m safe here.
-
🤲 Tapping: Gently tap your collarbone or palm while repeating, “It’s safe to slow down. I can handle this.”
-
🌍 Grounding: Feel your feet press into the floor. Notice the texture, temperature, the weight of your body being held.
-
🕯️ Mantra: “I’m safe in this moment.” Say it until your body believes you.
Safety isn’t built once, it’s built daily, breath by breath.
Safety and Self-Trust: The Balance
Safety doesn’t mean staying small.
It means you’re stable enough to stretch.
When your body knows it’s safe, even if you fail, even if you’re seen, even if you’re a little cringe, you can take brave action without fear of collapse.
Safety gives you a soft place to land.
Self-trust helps you leap.
And that’s the real secret behind lasting confidence and consistency.
