Episode 118: 12 Weeks of Free Coaching Cycle Breaking, Self-Compassion, and Trusting Your Body’s Wisdom
Cycle Breaking, Self-Compassion, and Trusting Your Body's Wisdom
If you've ever set goals to lose weight or change your habits only to find yourself feeling defeated by the end of the day, week, or month... this is for you. This week's podcast is all about the cycles we all experience and how to step out of them to create a new routine or habit that serves your goals better and connects with what your body needs.
Your Body Has Cycles, And That's Normal
The afternoon energy crash. The weekend derail. The week before your period, when hunger feels endless, and willpower feels like a myth.
These aren't failures. They're rhythms.
And when you stop treating them as evidence that you can't change, you can actually start to.
Ask yourself:
- Are you skipping breakfast and overdoing it at night?
- Do you follow a plan all week and then feel like the weekend is a free-for-all?
- Does the week before your period leave you reaching for everything in sight?
Just noticing these patterns, with curiosity instead of criticism, is powerful.
It moves you out of autopilot. And into choice.
How to Interrupt the Cycle
You don't need to overhaul everything. You just need to disrupt the pattern a little.
Front-load your day. More protein and fiber in the morning means fewer runaway cravings at night. Don't fear food, eating is how you take care of your body.
Use a pause, not a punishment. If you're midway through something and it doesn't feel good, pause. Move your body for a minute. Do some body tapping. Drink water and check in with what you actually need. The pause isn't about never going back, it's about breaking the automatic momentum.
Neutralize food. There's no good food and bad food. There are just foods that nourish you differently. When nothing is forbidden, nothing holds that kind of power over you.
Talk to yourself like someone you love. Instead of what is wrong with me, try I can see this pattern. What do I actually need right now?
Small language shifts. Enormous internal impact.
The Problem with "Mind Over Matter"
This one might surprise you.
Mind over matter the phrase we hear in workouts, in diet culture, in motivational content everywhere might actually be part of the problem... and yes I used to say this....
The idea is that your conscious mind should override your physical sensations.
Push through. Ignore the discomfort. Don't let your body slow you down.
But what if your body isn't the enemy?
What if the fatigue is asking you to rest? What if the hunger is asking you to eat? What if the unease in your gut is trying to tell you something your mind hasn't caught up to yet?
Your nervous system, your gut, your emotional body, they hold real intelligence.
When we constantly override those signals, we lose access to them.
We start distrusting our own intuition. We push through warning signs instead of listening to them.
The reframe isn't mind over matter.
It's mind with matter.
Using your mind to listen to what your body is already telling you, not silence it.
That's where real trust gets built.
Reflection Questions for This Week
Grab your journal and sit with these:
- What cycles do I notice, daily, weekly, or monthly around food, energy, or emotions?
- Where has guilt kept me stuck in a pattern instead of helping me move through it?
- Where have I been using "mind over matter" in ways that disconnect me from my body?
- What would it feel like to approach one pattern with curiosity instead of judgment?
- What's one small way I can practice mind with matter this week?
You Don't Have to Be Perfect to Make Progress
Progress isn't linear. Real life interrupts the plan. Cycles show up again.
But when you stop chasing perfection and start practicing awareness and compassion?
Something actually shifts.
Not just in your habits, but in how you feel about yourself.
You are not a problem to be solved.
You are someone learning to listen to your body, your rhythms, your wisdom.
And that is more than enough to begin.
