When You Want the Whole Cookie (Not Just the Crumbs)

A gentle look at desire, self-trust, and what might be blocking what you want

Sometimes the signs are there.
The synchronicities.
The small wins.
The crumbs.

And yet… you find yourself thinking,
Okay, but where is the whole thing?

That’s where this cookie metaphor was born.

Because so often, it’s not that the cookie isn’t available.
It’s that, on some level, we might not actually want it as much as we think we do.

Or more truthfully…
we might want it and be afraid of what comes with it.

Maybe we believe the only way to get the cookie is to bake it ourselves..
and we don’t like baking.
So we tell ourselves the desire is unrealistic.

Maybe we’re worried that if we eat the cookie, something bad will happen.
Weight gain.
Judgment.
More responsibility.
More pressure.

Maybe we’ve internalized the idea that good things must come with struggle,
that ease is suspicious,
that enjoyment requires payment later.

Or maybe we’re afraid of how other people will feel if we’re seen enjoying our lives.
Jealousy.
Resentment.
Judgment.

So we hold ourselves back. Quietly. Subconsciously.
And then wonder why we’re only seeing crumbs.

This metaphor works because it’s simple.
And because when it’s about a cookie, the truth is easier to see.

You are not responsible for other people’s emotions.
You are not required to suffer to be worthy.
You are allowed to want what you want, and want it without guilt.

And here’s another important piece:
Sometimes we stop wanting the cookie because past cookies didn’t taste good.

We burned them.
They disappointed us.
They didn’t turn out how we hoped.

But old experiences don’t get to dictate what’s possible now.

There are new recipes.
New ways.
New support.
New timing.

You don’t need to force the how.
You don’t need to rush the outcome.
You don’t need to abandon your desire just because it hasn’t arrived yet.

Aligned action can be gentle.
Desire can be patient.
And life can still be deeply enjoyable in the meantime.

When impatience shows up, when the inner child wants to stomp and say I want it now
that’s not failure.

That’s an invitation.

An invitation to return inward.
To ask better questions.
To soften instead of spiral.
To trust instead of self-protect.

You are allowed the cookie.
You are allowed to let it be easy.
You are allowed to live a life you love.

And sometimes… the most powerful thing you can do
is stop questioning whether you’re worthy of the cookie
and start believing it’s already on its way.
