Willpower is not the secret sauce for success

 

Hey there! Today, I want to talk with you about a fight I recently had with my husband...

My son actually calls this a talk... the truth is we don't fight very often. Still, my husband always leaves a bag of tortilla chips on the counter, which means they are visible and accessible and less me to grab a handful of chips I walk by... and before I even notice it, I may or may not have eaten the whole bag myself!

How to reframe willpower and switch strategies 

 

When my husband got upset with me because I ate all the bag of chips, and I told them that that's exactly why he should not put them on the counter but in the cupboard, he said, with an intent to work on it, that my willpower was very low.

But that is not how willpower works. Willpower is a limited resource, and often, we think, "If I just work harder and push through my willpower," things will work out for the best... but willpower is not the answer.
